I was born in Owensboro, KY and grew up moving around the country. I attended the United World College of the American West in New Mexico and then graduated from Macalester College with a B.A. in English and Gender Studies.
My nonprofit career began in 2009, when I returned to Kentucky after several years in Colorado. Since then, I have filled a variety of roles building organizational capacity, developing programs, and developing and managing grants.
I've helped organizations secure nearly $17.7 million in competitive funding since 2009. I have prepared winning proposals for the U.S. Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, and Justice, the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS), several state agencies, and family and corporate foundations.
I decided to expand my consulting work and incorporated Vickie Johnson Consulting, LLC in 2023 to support organizations as they develop funding strategies to build and sustain the important work they do. I also enjoy providing training on a variety of topics related to grants.
I am a member of the Grant Professionals Association (GPA) and am one of 14 grant professionals in Kentucky to hold the GPC (Grant Professional Certified) credential.
I live near Louisville, Kentucky, with my 12 y.o. daughter and our dog, cat, turtle, and pet rats. I love to travel, hike, knit, cook, and watch women's sports.
